Benefits At low ambient temperatures oil has a high viscosity and this can cause drag problems with engine starting and may also cause wear on cold start-up due to poor initial oil circulation. To prevent these problems the lubricant may be warmed by an engine oil heater, which will reduce oil viscosity. PEREGRINE oil sump heaters are often fitted as a supplement to coolant pre-heaters in very low ambient temperatures and are used extensively on air-cooled engines.
The benefits of oil heaters extend to their use with gearboxes, geared pumps, reservoirs, pipelines, where a reduction in oil drag is required.
PEREGRINE oil sump heaters are available in two main designs; internal and external.
PEREGRINE internal coiled oil heaters are of a low watt’s density, suited to the medium to be heated. The coiled heaters are inserted through a drilled or existing tapped hole in the oil container wall or through an inspection plate and, for adaptability purposes, are manufactured in both a straight and a right-angled version. Each heater is supplied with a full set of sealing washers and nuts, together with a connector box and cable.
? All configurations are available in a range of wattages, from 50 to 6000 with a range of voltages and, also in a large range of thread and flange sizes.
? Internal engine oil heaters are available not only in the coiled versions mentioned above, but also as small circular bar-type heaters which can be supplied in threads as small as 3/8 BSP or 12mm. The wattage available for such an element will be defined by the medium to be heated, the available thread diameter, and the available internal space, but please contact us with any application details and we can advise you of the best option.

PEREGRINE external Pad Heaters are of a low watt’s density. They are clamped to the flat underside of sumps, gearboxes, reservoirs etc., by means of strapping and brackets which are supplied as standard.
? The design of the pad heater is such that most of the heat produced is passed directly into the sump.
? Being external units, they lend themselves to the heating of such applications as chemical tanks containing corrosive liquids.
The PEREGRINE pad heaters are manufactured in two standard sizes to suit most applications, but many other sizes and types are available as specials. Different types of separate thermostats are available for use with internal and external oil heaters, as required.
